    Brain Injury - Microcephaly Can Be Helped! Tim is No Longer Blind, Deaf and Immobile When Tim was born, he was cyanotic and had trouble breathing. After his birth, he had difficulty feeding and seemed sluggish compared to most newborns. By 9 months of age Tim was delayed compared to other babies. Doctors recommended therapies to speed up his development, which did not yield results. At one year of age, after a vaccination, parents noticed a substantial regression in his abilities.

    Hemiplegia and Learning Problems Nihad crosses the finish line Nihad was born a well child. At 5 months of age, he suddenly became very ill. He became very irritable and lethargic, developed a fever and began projectile vomiting. At first, doctors thought it might just be a product of teething, but it became obvious that Nihad was suffering from something far more serious. When he was finally admitted to the hospital, it was discovered that he was suffering from tuberculous meningitis, which had caused increased intracranial pressure and hydrocephalus.

    Brain Injury From Near-Drowning and Coma Functionally blind, deaf and paralyzed, brilliant Caelum battles his way back. Caelum today reading about a topic of interest Caelum was born a well child. During the first year of his life, he developed like other babies. He started to walk and talk, just as he should. Then, when Caelum was 17 months old, his parents experienced every parent’s worst nightmare. Caelum fell into the pool and nearly drowned.

  • A Cardiac Arrest, Brain Injury and a Poor Prognosis Didn’t Stop Greta from Walking

    Brain Injury Diagnosis Proves Incorrect Greta was born by emergency C-section. After she was born, it was noted she had aspirated the amniotic fluid, and she needed a blood transfusion. The baby lost a great deal of blood, and her organs nearly failed. She went into cardiac arrest and required cardiac massage to revive her. She had no birth cry and breathed poorly. A diagnosis of brain injury was given to Greta.

    Diagnosis: Cerebral Palsy Prognosis: Very Poor Outcome: Wow A Hero’s Welcome Just a few months after finding out she was pregnant, Diego’s mother was told that the baby had a genetic abnormality. Soon after delivery, it was found that the baby had a mitral valve prolapse. As a result of the prolapse, the baby would often lose consciousness. Little Diego spent the first month of his life in the hospital.

    Hurt Kids Success Story Emilio The Institutes is happy to share the story of Emilio, who is three years old, and lives in Spain. Emilio’s parents attended the What To Do About Your Brain-Injured Child course in January 2012, and immediately began a program with Emilio. At that point, he could only move his arms and legs when laying down. Gradually, Emilio learned to crawl, and now he can creep indepently in a cross pattern, and has begun to stand on his knees.
