The Philosophy It is the philosophy of The Institutes that children can learn anything that can be taught in an honest, factual and joyous way. Further, The Institutes believes that all children should have the opportunity to achieve intellectual, physical and social excellence.
The Curriculum The curriculum is rooted in language, art, music, and history, and the performing arts, as well as mathematics and applied science. The school was founded on the conviction that a child's education should not begin at ground level, or even from the position of standing on the shoulders of parents, but should instead begin in the lofty position of standing on the shoulders of the musical, artistic, literary, and scientific giants who have existed in history. Major areas of study include: creative writing and English grammar, mathematics, Japanese language and culture, natural history, drawing and sculpture, Greek and Latin word roots, chemistry, physics, anatomy, history research, music theory, the study of Shakespeare and history of art, as well as extensive programs to create physical and social excellence. There is a strong emphasis on performance in the International school. All students have frequent opportunity participate in concerts (violin, piano, chorus), theatrical performance (Shakespeare, Gilbert and Sullivan), physical demonstrations (ballet, gymnastics) and other physical challenges (triathlon, swimathon), and teaching (classes, lectures, demonstrations) The International school also places a very strong emphasis on social growth. Students are given responsibility for themselves, for younger students and for the school. Students are expected to maintain a high level of honesty and integrity. Since the school is located on the campus of The Institutes students have the benefit of a very stimulating and exciting interchange with parents and children from around the world. International school students greatly benefit from the opportunity to be a part of The Institutes work with brain-injured children.
