The Doherty Family

Jennifer Doherty recently attended the How To Multiply Your Baby's Intelligence Course at The Institutes. She returned home to revitalize, improve, and build on her home program with daughters Lindsey (2 ½ years old) and Anna (14 months old). Jennifer wrote the following, describing the great fun they are having together.

Since attending the How To Multiply Your Baby's Intelligence Course. I have jumped directly into homemade books with Lindsey. We were only doing single words and couplets before.  She loves the books and pays a lot more attention to the corresponding words I keep in a pocket at the back of each book.

I've become much more consistent with our program on a daily basis.  When Anna wakes up, I bring cards with me into her room.  She loves this and usually pays attention better at that time. Keeping a set of Bit cards on the kitchen table is good too, and my latest fun idea is to "hide" a Bit card inside a set of math Dot Cards.

I've started using the Picture Dictionary CD.  The girls absolutely love it!  We choose three new categories every Monday.  All I have to ask is, "Who wants to see the Picture Dictionary?" and both of them come running chanting, "Picture Dictionary!  Picture Dictionary!  Picture Dictionary!"  We do the current categories for the week and then I let each of them chose one favorite past category to see again.

I've worked on keeping our physical program more consistent.  We're taking advantage of the recent good weather and have been doing our vestibular activities outside.  Doing somersaults and log rolls on soft grass is a blast!  I also have a lot more room to swing them around.  We play "Tag!" around the yard as well as run laps around the perimeter (each lap is about 1/10th of a mile)."

Lindsey is running about a mile a day and then if it's a good day, we walk another half-mile at a local school track.

Both girls enjoy swimming very much. Lindsey is a phenomenal swimmer and can swim two lengths of a 25-yard pool. Anna can float independently and can swim short distances (4 to 5 feet) to the pool ladder.

Both of my girls love their brachiation ladder, especially since it's painted all of the primary colors.  We keep it in our playroom (program room) so we're on it all the time!

At 2.5 years old, Lindsey started brachiating a few rungs independently.  Now at almost 3 years old, she can brachiate three quarters of the length of the ladder and hang for a full 60 seconds.
