Program VI: The Intensive Treatment Program

Objective

The objective of the Intensive Treatment Program is to achieve physical, intellectual, and social growth towards normality in as many children as possible. Since this is the most intensive program offered by The Institutes, it holds the greatest chance for wellness for any individual child.

Eligibility

Full entrance into this program is by invitation only. To be eligible, both parents must have successfully completed the What To Do About Your Brain-Injured Child Course and the Home Program Consultation. In addition, a family must have been successful members of the Aspirant Program .

Preparation

Parents must have successfully completed Programs One, Two, Three, and Five. They must have demonstrated to the staff that they have the determination, energy, stamina, knowledge, intelligence, and dedication that are required for this program.

Content

Every part of the Intensive Treatment Program must be completed every day. Either mother or father must be present and doing the home program at all times.

All revisits appointments are one week in length and are scheduled approximately every six months. Both parents must be present at all visits. Parents attend ongoing lectures in child brain development during each revisit.

Parents maintain close and frequent contact with the staff through their advocate. They receive additional information about the program by way of The IN-REPORT, The Institutes quarterly journal.

The medical care of the child remains with the child's personal physician. When needed, children on this program are eligible to be a part of the research program of The Institutes.

Due to the intensive nature of The Institutes program, there is no time for the child to engage in other programs or school while enrolled in the Intensive Treatment Program.

During this initial two-year period, the majority of children will have successfully achieved at least one major victory such as seeing, hearing, walking, talking, reading or writing for the first time. During the first two years a small number of children will achieve wellness and graduate from the program. Most children are substantially improved but still not entirely well at the end of this period.

At the end of the initial two-year period, parents are totally certified as Child Brain Developmentalists at the Qualified Parent Level and may choose one of two options:

  • They may remain in the Intensive Treatment Program for a longer time providing that the total number of children in the program does not exceed five hundred.
  • They may transfer back to the Home Study Program and continue their program
